CLINICAL SERVICES

Fall Sessions: Registration Open Now!

We offer both in-person and virtual services for people living with mobility challenges as a result of chronic health conditions.  Our focus is on members of our community whose access to rehabilitative and health promotion services is limited by social and economic factors.

Stay Active & Independent for Life (SAIL) – 12-week session meets every Tuesday and Thursday 10:15-11:15, starting Tuesday September 12th.  This program is offered virtually via Zoom.

SAIL is a strength, balance, and fitness class for adults 65 and older. Classes are twice a week for 12 weeks.  The program includes a period of continuous movement designed to get your heart rate up, followed by a series of balance, strengthening and flexibility exercises intended to improve your mobility and independence.  SAIL classes are taught by qualified SAIL leaders.  Contact us at ptmobilityclinic@springfieldcollege.edu to enquire or enroll.

Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance® – 12-week session meets every Tuesday and Thursday 10:30-11:30, starting Tuesday September 12th.  This program is offered in person in the Health Science Building on Alden Street.

Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance® is an evidence-based falls prevention program based on a routine known as Simplified 24-Form Tai Ji Quan. TJQMBB consists of an 8-form core with built-in practice variations and a subroutine of Mini Therapeutic Movements. TJQMBB transforms martial arts movements into a tailored movement therapy aimed at improving postural stability, awareness and mindful control of body positioning in space, functional walking, coordination, range of motion around the ankle and hip joints, and leg muscle strength.  It improves strength, balance, and mobility, and prevents falls in older adults and individuals with balance disorders.  (TJQMBB.org)

Walk With Ease – 6-week session beginning September 2023.

This is a student-coached self-directed walking program – we match each participant to a student coaching team that will check in regularly to provide support and information to supplement the Walk With Ease guidebook provided for free to participants.

Walk With Ease is a 6-week program from the Arthritis Foundation that is designed to help you make walking an important part of your everyday life.  Walk With Ease can help you to reduce the pain and discomfort you may have due to arthritis, improve balance, strength and walking pace, build confidence in your ability to be physically active, and improve your overall health.  Visit https://springfield.edu/walk-with-ease for more information and to enroll.

 Physical Therapy Services

In-person PT services are offered Tuesday and Friday 10:30-12:00, beginning Tuesday September 26th and ending Friday December 1st.  Most programs include activities that address balance, walking, strength, flexibility, and aerobic conditioning needs.  They are tailored to meet your individual needs.  All PT services are provided by students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, under the direct supervision of licensed PTs and faculty members.  Enrollment is at the discretion of the CMC staff.

Transmissable disease information:  In-person participants are encouraged to follow current recommendations and stay up to date on vaccinations against COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses.  Please do not attend clinic sessions when you feel ill or have tested positive for communicable disease.  Clinic staff reserve the right to deny services to any person who, in the judgment of the staff, appears to pose an unreasonable risk of disease transmission to other clinic participants and providers.
