Trans on Campus Speaker Series: Trans Realities on Campus
Presented by Matt Banks, Associate Director, Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Bentley University
2023 has seen an unprecedented increase in anti-LGBTQ+, and specifically anti-trans, legislation across the country. From the banning of school discussions on gender and sexuality to targeted efforts to prevent trans people from accessing medically necessary affirmative health care, these efforts have created an overwhelming sense of fear for trans people across the country. So where do these attacks come from and what can we do about it? This session will explore the nature and origin of these anti-trans bills, the arguments used to push them forward, and what higher education professionals can do to combat anti-trans policies on campus.
At Bentley, Banks develops and leads learning and development opportunities, dialogues and workshops for faculty and staff to build individual and collective capacity for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion work on campus.
This event is sponsored by the Division of Inclusion and Community Engagement, the Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA), and the Multicultural Fund.
This event is free and open to the Springfield College community and the general public.
