Religion and Philosophy Spring Forum – Empathy and Justice Beyond the Human

Feb 12, 2024 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
The Religion and Philosophy Spring Forum sponsored by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences presents its first speaker, Professor Lori Gruen, who will speak on “Empathy and Justice Beyond the Human” on Monday February 12th.
The talk will take place in Marsh Memorial Chapel during the Monday common hour time slot.
Empathy and Justice Beyond the Human
Description: In our concern for the more than human world, many discussions have focused on individual animal suffering and threats to entire species. What happens when we instead ask questions about what meaningful relationships between humans and animals are possible, what makes their lives livable, and what role empathy can play in helping us to promote better relationships with others, both human and nonhuman?
Lori Gruen is William Griffin Professor of Philosophy at Wesleyan University
