McCabe Lecture: Repurposing FDA-Approved Drugs to Mitigate Myopathy in Mouse Models of Myotonic Dystrophy
Presented by John D. Lueck, PhD
Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Physiology, Assistant Professor of Neurology
University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry, Rochester, N.Y.
Research conducted by researchers in the Lueck Lab includes the molecular genetics and experimental treatment of the trinucleotide repeat disorder myotonic dystrophy (DM1). They focus on studying pre-mRNA splicing defects in DM1 to determine the causes of muscle weakness and wasting, and develop and test new therapeutic strategies to target genetic missteps and reverse symptoms. In this lecture, Lueck will discuss how he and the other researchers study currently approved drugs that can be used to treat this disorder.
This event, presented by the faculty of the Department of Biology/Chemistry, is free and open to the Springfield College community and the public. Refreshments will be served at 3:30 p.m.
