SUMMARY:Lone Eagle/The Forest: Coyote Makes a World Music Performance
DESCRIPTION:As the central figure within Indigenous storytelling traditions of the Interior Northwest\, Coyote navigates the tenuous and tumultuous present in Coyote Makes a World\, a collaborative multimedia project between storyteller/vocalist čnaq’ymi (lone eagle) and The Forest\, a cooperative percussion ensemble featuring Gustavo Aguilar\, Leah Bowden\, Andrew Drury\, and Michael Wimberly. Centered on stories that embody the qualities of long held Native storytelling traditions\, here Coyote encounters the contemporary crises of our times\, oblivious to the consequences of his actions in ways that are familiar\, unsettling\, and often humorous. Set within a dynamic rhythmic landscape layered with songs and mesmerizing vocalizations\, Coyote Makes a World reflects the world we’ve made while taking the listener to places they’ve never before encountered. \nThis event is free and open to the Springfield College community and the public.

SUMMARY:Wakhri Film Screening and Q&A with Writer and Director Iram Parveen Bilal
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of the feature film Wakhri followed by a Q&A with the film’s writer and director\, Iram Parveen Bilal\, on the creative process of making this feature film and telling the story of Pakistani social media star Qandeel Baloch. \nBaloch\, a widowed school teacher\, becomes a viral sensation overnight when she accidentally unleashes her unabashed opinions on social media. This newfound fame comes with its own challenges as she has to navigate archaic mindsets and secret identities. \nIram Parveen Bilal is an award-winning empathic creator excited to tell thought-provoking stories that are socially impactful and envision an inclusive world. Bilal has quickly become a voice to reckon with in the Muslim community and on the world cinema stage. Invested in “raising while rising\,” her past films have led to measurable shifts in causes they championed. She has not only formed initiatives to uplift her community in film and tech but has also championed causes that are traditionally unpopular to support. Bilal initiated the formation of the Pakistani Oscar committee and is the founder of QALAMBAAZ\, Pakistan’s first professional screenwriting lab\, now in its tenth year. \nCheck out the trailer. \nThis event is free and open to the Springfield College community and the public. \nIf you have a disability and require a reasonable accommodation to participate in this event\, please contact Donna Croteau at dcroteau@springfield.edu as soon as possible to discuss your accessibility needs.
