Social Justice Through Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium 2023

March 23 @ 8:30 am March 25 @ 5:00 pm

Featuring Keynote Speaker Stephany Coakley, PhD

Cleveland E. and Phyllis B. Dodge Room, Flynn Campus Union, Springfield College

The Social Justice through Sport and Exercise Psychology (SJSEP) Symposium brings together researchers and practitioners in sport and exercise psychology (and other related disciplines) whose work focuses on social justice and praxis, marginalized communities, participants lacking scholarly attention, or that fall outside the positivist mainstream of sport psychology. A main purpose of this symposium is to bring together people passionate about these issues so that we can share our work as well as support and encourage each other. Individual presentations, workshops, and a keynote speaker will take place over the course of the three-day event.

This year’s keynote speaker is Stephany Coakley, PhD, senior associate athletic director for mental health, wellness and performance at Temple University. She is a certified mental performance consultant and licensed professional counselor with a doctorate in exercise and sport science with a concentration in sports psychology. Before coming to Temple University in 2017, Coakley worked as a certified mental performance consultant with Maximum Mental Training Associates in Washington, D.C., coordinating mental health and wellness services for college student-athletes, Olympians, and professionals.
