Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I have been coaching the men’s lacrosse team at Springfield College for almost 40 years. This year, I was selected to be the Distinguished Springfield Professor of Humanics. I was so shocked to receive this, especially considering the incredible list of previous Humanics professors, but I humbly accepted this challenge.

I immediately contacted Jim Warnock ’01, former captain and All-American on the lacrosse team, and asked him to be involved with the project. Jim, who teaches physical education, health, and adapted physical education at South Windsor (Conn.) High School, is an alumnus who learned about the Humanics philosophy while at Springfield–and now lives it. He did not check it at the door when he graduated.

I wish to take full advantage of this opportunity, with the assistance of Jim, to express to everyone what Humanics means to us and define it in my concept I’m calling SHOW UP.

Hopefully, you will find these sessions beneficial. We will give a short presentation on what it means to really SHOW UP for others and how others really SHOW UP for you.

The first step in living and understanding Humanics is to simply SHOW UP to one of these sessions.

Thank you very much,

Keith Bugbee
