All month long – check out the book collection in the Learning Commons. We have highlighted fiction and nonfiction works from a diverse set of writers to help us learn more about the prevalence and impact of sexual violence.
April 6 – SAAM Day of Action: Wear Teal and show off your support for victims of sexual violence on social media using the hashtags #SCTitleIX and #SCSAAM.
April 11 at 10am – Bringing In The Bystander Workshop: Bystanders should be empowered to take action to prevent, interrupt, and respond to sexual violence in our community. The Office of Non-Discrimination Initiatives invites all interested students to join us for a 2-hour virtual workshop with the YWCA iMatter Network to learn the skills to make a difference in our community. This workshop uses Bringing In The Bystander curriculum, which is backed by research and used nationally to train students at all levels to be empowered bystanders. Interested in joining? Sign up through this Google Form! There is limited space so reserve your spot today!
April 14 at 7pm- Athlete A Film Showing: Join ONDI and the Student Athlete Leadership Team for a virtual showing of Athlete A, the story of courageous USA Gymnastics team who spoke out against their abuser, Larry Nassar. The film is also available on Netflix. Register HERE to participate.
April 18 at 11am- Athlete A Film Discussion: Join ONDI and SALT for a Zoom discussion of Athlete A to explore how we can create supportive and inclusive environments for sexual assault survivors within team culture. If you weren’t able to join for the live viewing, you can still join the conversation! Register HERE to participate.
April 26-30 – Red Flag Campaign: SGA is bringing the Red Flag Campaign to campus! The campaign uses a bystander intervention strategy to address and prevent sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking on college campuses. The campaign encourages friends and other campus community members to say something when they see warning signs (“red flags”) for sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking in a friend’s relationship.
April 28 from 11:30am- 12:30pm – Denim Day Fair! On Denim Day, millions of people across the world will wear jeans with a purpose, support survivors, and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence. Check out our fair with clubs from across campus bringing lots of information and interactive activities to our community!
Preventing sexual violence is a community responsibility. We hope you can join us at these events to learn more about sexual assault and the ways that you can make a difference!
