Literary Reading by Novelist Thérèse Soukar Chehade

Oct 21, 2024 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Novelist Thérèse Soukar Chehade will read from her new novel set during Lebanon’s civil war. In We Walked On, we meet Rita, a 14-year-old girl, and Hisham, her 30-year-old Arabic teacher, who must negotiate a moral landscape perverted by political unrest and war. Chehade’s first novel, Loom, won the 2011 Arab American Book Award in fiction.

Born in Beirut, Thérèse Soukar Chehade moved to the United States in August 1983, eight years after the start of the civil war. She holds an MFA in writing from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and lives in Granby, Massachusetts.

A Q&A and book signing will follow the reading.
