Honoring Juneteenth 2022 – Book Discussion of “On Juneteenth”

June 17 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

The Forum, Harold C. Smith Learning Commons

Please join Vice President for Inclusion and Community Engagement Calvin R. Hill, PhD, in observance of Juneteenth 2022 with a discussion of Annette Gordon-Reed’s New York Times bestselling book On Juneteenth.

The book provides a historian’s perspective of the nation’s long road to recognizing Juneteenth as a federal holiday, while weaving in searing episodes of memoir.

Gordon-Reed is the Carl M. Loen University Professor at Harvard University. In addition to On Juneteenth, she also is the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family.

This will be an active book discussion. Participants will be asked to share insights learned, and their personal thoughts and reflections of the reading.
