Emmy Award-winning journalist Jemele Hill will present the 10th annual Springfield College Arts and Humanities Speaker Series lecture on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m., in Blake Arena. Hill is co-founder of Lodge Freeway Media and a contributing writer for The Atlantic. She is well-known for her time at ESPN, where most recently, she is set to produce the ESPN documentary on former NFL quarterback and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick. Hill started her ESPN career in 2006, serving as a national columnist for espn.com, and making appearances on SportsCenter, First Take, Around the Horn, The Sports Reporters and Outside the Lines.

In April of 2019, Hill debuted her award-winning podcast, Jemele Hill is Unbothered, on Spotify. The two-time Webby award-winning podcast features in-depth, thought-provoking conversation with some of the biggest newsmakers across entertainment, culture, music, and politics. In 2018, Hill was honored by the National Association of Black Journalists with the NABJ Journalist of the Year Award.

In addition to breaking new ground as an award-winning podcaster, Hill continued her celebrated television broadcasting career with her longtime friend and former ESPN anchor, Cari Champion, as the they launched a weekly show in August of 2020 on the Vice Network called, Cari & Jemele: Won’t Stick to Sports. The show covered politics, sports, news, current events and pop culture. Most recently, she has published Uphill: A Memoir (Henry Holt, 2022), which Booklist calls “brave, incisive and uncompromising.”
