African American Read In

February 17 @ 10:00 am 2:00 pm

The National African American Read-In is the nation’s first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million participants around the world.

On Friday, February 17th, from 10-2 (March 3rd-Snow Day Alternative)., interested Springfield College students, staff, faculty, and administrators have been invited to share stories with over 100 second-grade students from area Springfield Public Schools. The second graders will engage in small group reading, dance, other art activities, physical activities, and much more. They will also be feed lunch, and each classroom will receive books for their classroom libraries. If you want to volunteer or have questions, contact Dr. Stephanie Logan at slogan2@springfieldcollege.edu.
