From classroom to clinic and beyond, Julia Chevan, PT, DPT, PhD, MPH, spent three decades influencing spirits, minds, and bodies through her academic appointment in the Springfield College Department of Physical Therapy (1993-2023). Chevan is currently employed at the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, where she’s the senior program manager at the Center for Advancing Healthy Communities with a focus on a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded arthritis care innovation project.

Chevan’s impact reaches far beyond the American shores—she’s a three-time Fulbright recipient who has left her mark around the world. From teaching in Rwanda (2011) to consulting in Nepal (2022) and working with rehabilitation faculty in Latvia (2023), she’s truly a student of the global health.

When she’s not diving into research at the crossroads of physical rehabilitation, health services, and PT education, Chevan is putting her multiple degrees in Physical Therapy (Boston University and Quinnipiac University), Public Health (University of Massachusetts Master of Public Health) and Health Science (Virginia Commonwealth University Doctor of Philosophy) to good use. Her secret sauce? A perfect blend of health policy smarts and hands-on experience.

Outside the office, Chevan keeps herself busy through her community volunteer work. Her real happy place? The great outdoors! Whether she’s pedaling through bike trails, lacing up her running shoes, conquering the Adirondack High Peaks (ADK 46er!), or foraging for nature’s treasures, Chevan proves that staying active isn’t just a research project or a job—it’s a way of life.
