The Extra Mile Event: A Celebration of John Borland’s Teaching and Service
We will be celebrating Borland on campus at The Extra Mile Event: A Celebration of John Borland’s Teaching and Service on Friday, May 3 from 4-6 p.m. in the Townhouse Conference
Room. We hope to bring alumni, faculty, and current students together to share fond memories of their time with Borland, and to reconnect. He would hate that we get together to honor him,
but he would love that students and alumni reconnect and network. Thank you for your contributions. The response to his passing has been overwhelming, and we would now like to honor his work, his mentorship, and life here on Alden Street.
The Department of Sport Management and Recreation is creating a memory book celebrating John Borland’s 18 years of teaching and service at Springfield College. We would love to hear
favorite memories, best classes or projects, funny stories, inspirational moments, or your thoughts on his impact. Additionally, we will collect pictures to add to the book commemorating
his time at Springfield College. We will then have the book printed and bound to give to his children so that they may know what an amazing teacher he truly was. Borland, PhD, an
associate professor of Sport Management, passed away on December 26, 2023, after a year- long battle with cancer.
Remember to contribute to the group book, A Celebration of John Borland’s Teaching and Service, that Heather Gilmour, EdD, associate professor and chair of the Department of Sport
Management and Recreation, invited you to! It won’t be the same without you so don’t miss out.
